Cancel Culture, Call-Out Culture, Counsel Culture: Affirming Today's "Disruptors" as Future Leaders

Cancel culture has become a polarizing topic of debate. The rise of public backlash is often fueled by social media. Preserving cultural cachet delicately teeters on evoking one’s freedom to speak truth to power or merciless mob outcry. This interactive diversity & inclusion webinar will define cancel culture and address the disparate impact of cancel culture on diverse groups. As society grapples with establishing new ethical and social norms, asserting cancel culture as a social justice remedy may indeed dismiss and suppress the free exchange of ideas, thoughts, and speech needed to make meaningful change. As career professionals prepare students to transition to the world of work, best practices for student engagement in the new normal will be shared. Helping students to stand in their truth in the midst of the tumultuous wave of cancel culture, call-out culture, and counsel culture trends positions them to strike the balance needed to succeed in the workplace without relinquishing their identity and beliefs.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Build an awareness and understanding of cancel culture.
  2. Understand the difference between cancel culture and call-out culture.
  3. Identify the need for counsel culture and teachable moments in order to transform thinking.
  4. Empower students’ personal truth and identification in their growth as a professional.
