Kickoff Transfer Students Career Journey: BootCamp

There is an ever present need to engage our transfer students early! But how is the best way to go about this? Transfers can present an ongoing conundrum to career centers: Engage too much and they feel overwhelmed; engage too little and they are not career ready; they come in at a variety of career readiness levels furthering the engagement challenges. Even with all these challenges, there are opportunities that career centers can leverage, including the engagement with a diverse student population! Learn in this presentation about one school’s successes with internal and external partnerships to bring their diverse transfers together in a one day bootcamp style event to help increase transfer student participation in the career process and overall transfer outcomes. This presentation will help participants identify who can be allies in engaging transfer students on their campus as well as external employer partners. There will be built in time in the session for participants to brainstorm what their transfer bootcamp might look like and how they could develop initial steps for implementation. Finally, we will take a look at how we threaded key career competencies through the bootcamp and career engagement process with transfers to make sure they are career ready!
